Widows 8 is an operating system developed by Microsoft Corporation. It is the successor to Windows 7 and is the most recent OS by Microsoft.

Issues

When installing Office 2010 the install hangs or freezes

Solution

  1. Right click on the Taskbar
  2. Select Task Manager
  3. Navigate to Processes
  4. Select "spoolsv.exe"
  5. Click End Process

The filename is too long

If you have downloaded or recovered a file that has too long of a filename, Windows will not allow you to rename it. The context menu (when you right click the file) is limited to only a few selections and does not have the option to rename the file. Attempting to rename the file via the CMD prompt also yields the same error.

Solution

  1. Open the installed archiver program (WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc). If you don't have one, download 7-Zip.
  2. Navigate to the directory with the long file name using the archiver program (e.g. 7-Zip)
  3. Right click on the file and rename it
