Open broadcaster software, also known as OBS, is a free alternative to the streaming program Xsplit. It is open source and currently in beta.

Issues[edit]

Streaming with Dxtory[edit]

When trying to stream with Dxtory, OBS will show a popup box with the error "Incompatible hook modules were detected in the OBS process. Please make sure OBS is added to the ignore list of capture programs such as DXTory, FRAPS, etc. After changing ignore settings, you may need to restart OBS and any hook-based capture programs for changes to take effect."

Solution

  1. Open Dxtory and click on the first tab (the one with the crosshair)
  2. Click Ignore Setting...
  3. Click on the + Button
  4. Browse to the OBS directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\OBS or C:\Program Files\OBS)
  5. Select OBS.exe and click Open
  6. Click OK

Black screen with sound in some games[edit]

When trying to stream or record some games, OBS will capture the sound, but not the screen and a black screen appears as a result. This issue occurs with game capture and is the result of OBS being unable to 'hook' onto the game process.

Solution

Exit or disable any programs that hook onto the game, like Fraps, EVGA Precision, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server etc.
