Java PS3 Media Server is a free streaming program written in the Java programming language and transcodes most media files into a format playable by the PS3.

Issues

When trying to watch HBO TV shows on the PS3, the audio becomes extremely slow after the HBO logo appears and is often combined with a very high pitched noise. It seems to be caused by an issue with Dolby Digital audio transcoding.

Solution

  1. Open PS3 Media Server
  2. Navigate to the Transcoding settings tab
  3. Click Use LPCM for audio (no re-encode)
  4. Click Save
  5. Click Restart Server
